CFBC Students prepare for Debating Competition

(ZIZ News) — Students at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) are getting ready to represent St. Kitts in the upcoming Leeward Islands’ Debating Competition.

The college is hosting the regional event, which will be staged at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort, later this month.

CFBC President, Dr. Kelvin Daly said the students have been undergoing intense training.

“It’s very gruelling. Rather than reading from prescribed text, they are actually trying to learn the material so the teaching of it, the research, a lot of student-based research goes into the presentations,” he said.

Dr. Daly said the work that goes into preparing for the debates usually has a long lasting effect on the students.

“It gives them a serious boost in their confidence, the research skills, and oratories. They’re really different to the rest of the students. It really builds them up to a point where they can hold a conversation and defend their points,” he explained.

The Leeward Islands Debating Competition runs from Thursday 26th February until Sunday 29th February and will feature seven participating countries.
