Cheques for COVID-19 effort

Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 21, 2020 (ZIZ News): Five cheques from individuals and community groups have been presented towards the COVID-19 relief efforts during a brief presentation at Monday’s Daily COVID-19 Briefing.

In his presentation District Governor Of Rotary, Trevor Blake noted that two of the cheques came from the Rotary Club of St. Kitts and the Rotary Club of Liamuiga as part of Rotary International’s response to COVID-19 across the globe.

“The 34,000 Rotary Clubs around the world and their members are also playing their own individual parts in trying to bring some relief in their own communities,” he said. “Here in St. Kitts and Nevis, we are no different. Our two clubs, The Rotary Club of St. Kitts and The Rotary Club of Liamuiga are doing a number of things to assist in the community, to assist in the fight against this dreaded COVID-19 and today as a part of that response, I’m here to present two cheques on behalf of the two clubs.”

The cheques totaled 21 thousand five hundred dollars and Mr. Blake said they were aimed to assist in testing individuals.

The other 3 cheques came from Charles Wilkin QC who donated 11 thousand dollars, Kenneth Kelly who donated ten thousand dollars, and Eustace Warner who donated five thousand dollars.

Medical Chief of Staff of the JNF General Hospital Dr. Cameron Wilkinson accepted the cheques on behalf of the Ministry Of Health.

“I just want to say how pleased I am that so many private citizens, and businesses, and NGO’s are stepping forward to join us in this fight against COVID-19,” he said. “To Mr. Charles Wilkin, Ken Kelly, Eustace Warner of Warner’s One Stop, The Rotary Clubs of St. Kitts and Liamuiga, I say a big ‘Thank You’. This is a testament to the fact that they are heeding the call for an ‘All of Society’ approach to this fight. We cannot do this alone”

He went on to thank everyone who has contributed to the effort no matter how big or small, including persons who have kept the health officials and other front line workers in their prayers.
