Child Month 2019

Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 2, 2019 (ZIZ News): St. Kitts & Nevis is once again observing June as Child Month.

In an address to launch the month Junior Minister of Education on Nevis, Hon. Troy Liburd, noted that it is a time to celebrate the children ad highlight the advancements being made in the area of early childhood education.

The theme for this year is “Celebrating Our Progress As a Nation, 35 Years Of Early Stimulation.”

Focusing on the progress Nevis has made in early childhood care Minister Liburd said “keen attention is given to training for teachers and caregivers.”

“We have seen the introduction of the Early Childhood Associates Degree Programme at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC.) We have seen a number of individuals go off to get degrees at the Bachelor’s level in Early Childhood Education. All of these serve to improve the quality of early childhood education,” he said.

He also noted that there are ongoing projects geared toward the improvement of early learning. These include first aid training, professional development sessions, and licensing and registering process for early childhood centres.

Minister Liburd urged everyone to take part in activities planned in Nevis including a church service on June 02, the annual parade on June 07, Dancing With The Stars on June 05, and the virtues-based Prince And Princess Show on June 14
