Chilean Ambassador to SKN pays courtesy call on Nevis Premier

NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (MARCH 20, 2013) — Premier of Nevis Hon. Vance Amory welcomed Chilean Ambassador to St. Kitts and Nevis His Excellency Eduardo Bonilla Menchaca, when he paid a courtesy call on the Premier at his Bath Hotel office on March 19, 2013.

The visit came after the Ambassador had presented his Letter of Credential to the Federation’s Governor General His Excellency Sir Edmund Lawrence in St. Kitts.

“Welcome to Nevis and I am happy to have you and happy to exchange with you some of the areas in which your country could be of help to Nevis and St. Kitts.

“I know one of the things we discussed was how you may be able to help us in the area of fisheries and agriculture, two areas in which your country is very strong… It is such a pleasure to have you and I look forward to other areas and times of meeting and to have the cooperative assistance of your country as time goes on,” he said.

The Chilean Ambassador is based in Jamaica and also assigned to duties in the other Caribbean islands of Antigua and Barbuda and the Commonwealth of Dominica.

Mr. Amory also took the opportunity to assure the Chilean Ambassador that if he wished to reside on Nevis after his retirement, Nevis would be happy to have him.

Meantime, in brief remarks Ambassador Menchaca stated that he was pleased he was assigned by his country’s President to serve as Ambassador in the Caribbean.

“For me it is a great pleasure to be here and I am very happy with my new assignment that the President of Chile Senor Miguel Juan Sebastián Piñera Echenique gave to me.

“We were talking about the assistance the international cooperation that we are going to work on between my country and St. Kitts and Nevis, especially in fishing and in agriculture areas. So… going to be here [is] the Director of the Chilean International Cooperation Agency and he is going to come to work with your Excellency and your Government,” he said.

The Chilean Ambassador also gave his impressions of Nevis.

“This is a very nice country it is a very nice island; I love it and I am going to spend my holidays here, so I thank you very much and appreciate very much this moment that you gave me,” he said in conclusion.
