SPORTS PAGE—Friday 28th June 2013–Two former students at the Maude Cross Preparatory School received deserving accolades and cheques with undisclosed amounts at their alma mater, on Thursday 27th June.
The two former students, Chloe Williams and Sadiki Tyson, who previously contributed significantly to the athletic successes of the school in previous years, were the specially invited guests at the school’s regular assembly period.
Also among the invited dignitaries at the special ceremony to honour the two athletes, were their former Headmistress, a beaming Mrs. Varina Williams; their first official coach, Malcolm Ramsey, who deferred his usual Choice Sports rap, to be present at the ceremony and several parents, family members and well wishers.
Teacher at the school, Ms Cherry Anne Walwyn noted that the school is proud to be associated with the two champion athletes who have recently gained selection to the federation team which is scheduled to go to Ukraine shortly to represent St.kitts and Nevis in the World youth championships from July 10-14.
She warmly congratulated them to rousing applause especially from the school children present.
Their former Coach Malcolm Ramsey, noted that Sadiki bloomed early and gained the first gold medal ever for the school at the prestigious Inter Primary event and went on to be class champion for several years. Chloe on the other hand started to demonstrate her true potential from grade two and by the time she got to Grade six, she had already established herself as a champion athlete.
He also indicated that they were not only two intelligent individuals but also very disciplined. ‘I never had any problems with them,’ he stated. He also took the opportunity to tell the children present that the success of the athletes came due to hard work and constant training and admonished them that they too can make it, if they put in the effort. He also challenged the two athletes to put out their best efforts and assured them that once they did that, they would achieve much during the upcoming world event.
Headmistress Bishop also warmly congratulated the two athletes and presented them with cheques which she referred to as ‘a token of our appreciation for your achievements.’
A shy Sadiki Tyson thanked the school for the fine gesture and implored the current students to work hard at their goals.
Chloe Williams for her part was more verbose and also thanked the school and her former coach and Teachers for their efforts. She took time out to tell the children that they need to set goals and work towards them.
Both athletes were again warmly applauded by the gathering.
The two athletes are due to leave the Federation along with their Kittitian teammates on Tuesday July 2nd.
