CIBC FirstCaribbean Cancer Walks concludes Cancer Month Activities

BreastCancerRibbonA(CIBC) Basseterre: Activities for cancer month, which saw CIBC FirstCaribbean partnering with Essence of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation (Essence) in St Kitts, came to a climax with a Walk for the Cure on 26th October 2013.

Again this year, employees, their friends and families took part in the event, in a bid to raise awareness of and support for the fight against all types of cancer.

The official Walk for the Cure in St Kitts was held on Saturday, 26th October 2013 at 6:00 am, and hundreds gathered at the Caribbean Cinema’s parking lot and walked toward the F T Williams Highway, along the Kim Collins Highway, onto Frigate Bay ending at the 3rd Roundabout in the Frigate Bay area, in support of the cause.

Hundreds also turned out in support, to a similar walk on Nevis, on Sunday, 27th October at 3:30 pm starting from The Artisan Village and Island Main Road, and continuing up the bypass by TDC, straight across to Pump Road, turning right down towards the cemetery, then on to the Island Main Road onto Samuel Hunkins Drive and ending at The Artisan Village.

For the month of October the bank partnered with Essence of Hope, to raise funds to provide financial support for individuals currently battling cancer, and to educate citizens of the Federation on the different types of cancer that affect people globally.

Country Manager, Mrs Ladesa James-Williams says “We at CIBC FirstCaribbean are committed to partnering with our communities For What Matters, and in this case, for the health of our communities. I am very pleased by the resounding success of the month’s activities and that we were able to reach our goal of raising EC$20,000.00 for the cause. I would like to thank the general public, our corporate partners, Essence of Hope, and the staff of CIBC FirstCaribbean for their support for the activities held during the month, as it would not have been possible without their input.”

Referring to the Walks, Mrs James-Williams noted that the number of people participating in the Walks continued to grow and that she looked forward to 2014, when the bank will again be demonstrating its support for efforts in finding a cure for the disease.

Corporate partners coming on board this year included: TDC Group of Companies, S L Horsford & Co Ltd, Dufry, Carib Crafts and Graphics Ltd, Richie’s Diamond Gallery, Modern Elegance, BG Fireworks, Indian Merchant Association, IC Jewellers, Glitter Jewelry, I Love St. Kitts, C&C Trading Ltd, Silver Reef Condominiums, Christophe Harbour, St. Kitts Marriott Resort and the Royal Beach Casino, Courts St. Kitts & Nevis Ltd, Ram’s Trading Ltd, Nirvana, Kantours Travel, Steppin, Sole Bliss, Digicel St.Kitts & Nevis and Buddies Beach Hut. Limitless LP Band provided entertainment for the very successful Cocktail and Auction.

All funds raised from the cancer month events will go to the Essence of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation and Pink Lily.
