Citizens encouraged to take advantage of mental health and psycho-social support during COVID-19 pandemic

Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 27, 2020 (ZIZ News): Residents and citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis are still being encouraged to take advantage of the Mental Health and Psychosocial support being offered by the St. Kitts Mental Health Association and the St. Kitts and Nevis Red Cross Society during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Clinical Psychologist within the Ministry of Health, Dr. Cherrilyn Warde Crawford, shared this message while presenting at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) COVID-19 Daily Briefing on Sunday, April 26.

Dr. Warde-Crawford said that the association has embarked on a campaign to disseminate information with short articles that address Parenting during COVID-19, Managing Anxiety, Supporting vulnerable populations during COVID-19 and Reducing Stigma.

“We are asking members of the public to read the short articles and enhance their awareness of the varying responses to this pandemic and gain insight about coping. This is positive, accurate and share-worthy information,” she said.

She said that all of the articles along with other initiatives can be found on the St. Kitts Mental Health Association Facebook page and encouraged persons to visit the page daily for updates on how to boost your mental health and how to cope with stress and anxiety during this difficult time.

Psychosocial support personnel in St. Kitts will be available to serve from 9am-3pm via 661-2603, 11am-3pm via 661-2852 and from 2-8pm via 664-3614.

Meanwhile, in Nevis persons can contact 663-7879 then from 2-6pm via 664-4119 and from 7-10pm on 660-0901 from 9am-4pm.

Persons are also encouraged to call 466-7453, 466-9626 and 466-3874 for Mental Health assistance.
