Civil servants, pensioners to get extra month’s salary, announces PM Douglas
Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 17th 2013 (CUOPM) – Federal civil servants and pensioners will get an extra salary come payday on Wednesday 18th September, St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil l. Douglas announced Monday.
Delivering an address at the wreath laying ceremony at the Robert L. Bradshaw Memorial Park in St. Paul’s to mark National Heroes Day, part of the annual celebrations to mark the anniversary of political independence, Dr. Douglas recognised the sterling contribution of persons who have been making sacrifices over the past 30 years of nationhood for the benefit of the society.
“Our public servants in particular, those currently serving and those who have retired have toiled tirelessly to make our country a better place. I think it is therefore fitting that on this, the 30th Anniversary of our Nation, we salute and we reward our public servants and our pensioners by providing them a bonus of one month’s salary or pension as a small token of our appreciation to their loyal and committed service to the people of this country,” announced Prime Minister Douglas to the thunderous applause of the invited guests.
He said the extra month’s salary will be paid on pay day – Wednesday 18th September – a day before the 30th Anniversary of Independence.
