Co-operatives Sensitization Workshop

(ZIZ News) — The importance of cooperative laws was the main focus of a one day Re-sensitization Workshop for board members of various co-operatives in St. Kitts-Nevis.

The workshop took place on Tuesday at the Department of Agriculture.

Delivering brief remarks at the opening ceremony, Registrar of Co-operatives, Clyde Thompson spoke about the importance of obeying laws that govern co-operatives.

“These laws are to ensure the development of structures, efficiency, and professionalism, which, in the end, will help to deliver benefits for all members of co-operatives once there is compliance. This workshop today should serve to motivate you the board members of the cooperatives the take the lead in complying with co-operative laws,” he said.

Minister responsible for Co-operatives, Hon. Eugene Hamilton pledged his ministry’s commitment to support the growth and development of local co-operatives.

“The Ministry is indeed committed to ensure that the co-operatives are equipped with the necessary developmental tools so that they can serve all of us better. It is important as well that my ministry works hand-in-hand with this department and give them all the tangible support that is needed,” he said.

The sessions covered topics including Co-operative Philosophy, Support from the Department of Co-operatives, and Expectations of Co-operatives.
