Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 07, 2012 (SKNIS): Commissioner of Police Celvin G. Walwyn encouraged students at the Beach Allen Primary School to lead positive lives and to help each other, during a special assembly on Wednesday.

The Head of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force highlighted four principles that the students should practice.

“I came here to speak to the children this morning trying to impress upon the importance of being honest, being respectful, having courage to do what is right and also to love one another,” he stated. He added that his message was crafted to teach the students how to “avoid the temptation to join gangs, avoid the temptation to do wrong and stand up and be counted by doing what’s right.”

Beach Allen’s Principal Emileta Warner-Paul told the St. Kitts and Nevis Information Service, that she invited the Commissioner to address the students given his aggressive stance against antisocial influences such as gang activity as well as his commanding presence. This trait was made even more important considering that the school population is 466 of which 260 are boys.

The school administrator explained that the Commissioner exuded confidence and had the complete attention of the students. She added that they were very receptive to the message and most seemed impressed with the fact that Commissioner Walwyn grew up in Newtown, which is one of the communities that Beach Allen students are drawn from.

The students were left with this slogan “If it is to be, it’s up to me!”`

Mrs. Warner-Paul stressed that this positive statement encouraged the students to work hard and pursue their dreams. Posters bearing the slogan will be mounted around the school to remind students of the message behind the words.
