The announcement was made Sunday night during an address to the nation in which Minister Liburd announced the decision that had been made.

“I am pleased to be able to report that a shift arrangement has been agreed to, whereby the students of the Basseterre High School will be attending classes at the Washington Archibald High School. This of course will require significant adjustments in the normal routines of parents, guardians, teachers and students of the Washington Archibald High School and the Basseterre High School. The shift system will begin on Wednesday May 7th 2014, with the students of Washington Archibald High School attending classes at the Washington Archibald High School from 7:45am to 1:15pm each day and the students of the Basseterre High School from 1:30pm to 6:15pm each day,” the minister explained.

Minister Liburd further extended thanks to the stakeholders who had been involved in the negotiations which lead to the announcement of a resolution.

She said, “The purpose of this statement is to express my appreciation to the parents, teachers, union members and other members of society who, in a spirit of cooperation and patriotism, have worked so hard to arrive at a fair and workable means of ensuring that the students of the Basseterre High School will be able to continue their education and complete this academic year’s work in a calm and constructive environment. The Ministry, and by extension the government, wishes on behalf of the entire nation to thank you for your patience and your understanding in the circumstances, which we do not in any way take for granted. I know that the entire nation would also wish to join me in expressing heartfelt appreciation to the teachers and parents of the Washington Archibald High School, whose generosity of spirit has made this shift system possible.”
