ST. KITTS, JANUARY 27TH 2011 (CUOPM) – Activities to mark the first anniversary of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party’s fourth straight election victory continues this weekend.

The Constituency Branch of St. Christopher 6 (Newton Ground to Harris’) is inviting residents of the area and others parts of St. Kitts and Nevis to join them on the St. Kitts Scenic Railway train on Sunday afternoon.

Organisers say boarding is at the La Valle Station at 2 ‘o’ clock and the 18 mile tour ends at the Needsmust Station just outside the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport.

Tickets for tour on board the “Last Railway in the West Indies” are on sale at EC$20 and are available from Ms. Ruby Taylor and Mrs. Ryllis Vasquez. Persons without advanced tickets will also be allowed to board at the La Valle station on the payment of cash.

Leaving La Valle station, the train is soon surrounded by fields of sugar cane and the railway winds around the slopes of Mt. Liamuiga, its volcanic tooth piercing the clouds, and along the Atlantic Ocean. There are hidden black sand beaches, and hundreds of crumbling and overgrown plantation estates. The train crosses numerous tall steel girder bridges, with one stretching 300 feet across a deep ravine, or “ghut”. Sweeping vistas offer up the nearby islands of St. Barts, St. Maarten, Saba, and St. Eustatius.

The journey also immerses travelers into St. Kitts village life. Passengers will see Cliffside piggeries, fields of pineapples, papaya, guava, and banana trees.
