Consumer Affairs hosts appreciation ceremony

(ZIZ News) — The Department of Consumer Affairs held an appreciation ceremony on Thursday morning to show thanks to local businesses that have supported them over the years.

It formed part of Consumer Affairs Week and ten businesses received a token of appreciation for their contribution to the week.

Consumer Affairs Investigation Officer, Vincent Fough spoke of the role the department has in ensuring that consumer’s rights are protected and their safety is ensured.

“It’s one of the reasons why the Department of Consumer Affairs is taking the initiative to make sure that we educate our consumer and based on the top this year we are urging consumer to be the driving force in these fast food chains so they can stop buying their food loaded with antibiotics,” he said.

The department also presented the winners of the Consumer Choice Supermarket of the Year.

This year there are two winners: one for the Basseterre area and one for the rural communities from West Farm to Conaree.

The winner for Basseterre is RAMS Bay Road and the winner for the rural areas is B’s Enterprises in Sandy Point.

The appreciation ceremony took place at the Tourism Conference Room at the Ministry Of Tourism.
