Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 5, 2019 (ZIZ News): The second segment of road works for Phase 2 of the Island Main Road Rehabilitation Project has reached the tendering phase.

This according to Chief Engineer at the Public Works Department, Mr. George Gilbert who explained that work in the second segment comprises construction of sidewalks and drains between Parson Ground and St. Pauls through Challengers.

He said a minimum of three contractors were presented with Tender documents to bid on the second segment project.

He said pre-bid meetings were also held on site within the last week to address the nature of works required and what is expected of them to complete the project.

While explaining the bidding process, the Chief Engineer stated that contractors are invited to submit their tenders to the Secretary at the Public Works Department in a sealed envelope, which would then be placed in a locked box.

He said that all contractors must return the Tender documents on Thursday August 8 2019 before 10 a.m. to be considered during the public bidding in the Public Works Department Conference Room.

Gilbert said there would be no names written on the sealed envelopes of the tender documents to keep the bidding fair and transparent. An evaluation of the documents will also take place at 10:30 Thursday morning.

The Tender document has preliminaries that include indirect cost like insurance and a site office, dust control and protection of the work from weather elements.

The document also shows the estimated pricing for works like excavation, formwork, fill material and concrete which are all direct costs for the project.

All contracts for Government projects are awarded after an open (public) and transparent tendering process, as stipulated by the Procurement and Contract (Administration) Act, 2012.
