Cop to face court on ganja charges

Kingston, Jamaica — The policeman who was arrested for possession of ganja along the Palisadoes main road on Sunday has been formally charged.

Constable Robert Roach, 43, who is assigned to the Kingston Central Division, was yesterday charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja, taking steps to export ganja and trafficking ganja.

Roach was arrested in the vicinity of the Norman Manley International Airport after a search of his vehicle revealed a portion of compressed ganja, along with more than US$7000 and J$100, 000.

Investigations led to a further search being conducted at premises in Bridgeport, St Catherine. The police report that vegetable matter resembling ganja and cash were also found at the dwelling.

Subsequently, 23-year-old Jonelle Edwards, of Bridgeport,St Catherine, who was at the premises at the time of the search, was also charged for possession of and dealing in ganja.

Roach is scheduled to appear in the Corporate Area Criminal Court on Friday and Edwards will appear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate Court on Tuesday.

Investigations are ongoing.
