Culturama Calypso Contest Heats up in Nevis, Finalists Announced

Next weekend’s TDC Senior Kaiso Contest is expected to be keenly contested after one point separated two former Culturama kings, Astro and Hollywood in Friday night’s Senior Kaiso Semi-final Contest in Nevis.

The contest was held at the Nevis Cultural Complex and saw ten calypsonians competing for a place in the finals.

Polo, Adowah and Daddy Nature were no match for Astro, Hollywood, Nutsy, Baker, Lady Panther, Irwin and Enforcer.

According to a release from the Culturama committee, Astro secured 483 points with Hollywood following closely in second place with 482 points. Nutsy copped third place with 474 points and was followed by Baker with 459.5 points.

First time entrant, Lady Panther received 443 points while Irwin scored 436 points and Enforcer scored 403.5 points.

The TDC Senior Kaiso Finals will take place on Saturday August 1st at the Cultural Complex at 8:30 pm. There, reigning senior calypso king, Keith “Dis ‘N Dat” Scarborough will seek to defend his crown.

Meantime, the 41st edition of Culturama continued on Saturday with the Empire Sports Club’s Aquatic Extravaganza and the International Night Freedom Concert featuring soca artiste, Destra.
