Danny Upgrades to a Category One Hurricane

(ZIZ News) –Danny has upgraded to a category one hurricane, the first of the Atlantic Hurricane Season.

As of 5pm Thursday, the center of Hurricane Danny was located about 1,030 miles east of the Windward Islands, according to information from the National Hurricane Center.

It is estimated to be about 1,015 miles to the south east of St. Kitts and Nevis.

The Hurricane Center stated that Danny is moving toward the west-northwest, near 10 miles per hour and this general motion is expected to continue into Saturday.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 80 miles per hour with higher gusts. Some additional strengthening is forecast during the next 24 hours, but a weakening trend is expected to begin after that.

A press release from the St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) Thursday evening said, “On its present track, the system will be near the Leeward Islands Monday. Residents should complete their hurricane plans and be prepared to start to implement them if necessary.”

There are currently no coastal watches or warnings in effect, all residents are urged to monitor the movement of Hurricane Danny closely.
