Defending champions warm up for big tournament

CricketFilePhotoC(Sports Page) — The Nevis Masters’ team, the current defending champions of the Leeward Islands Masters’ Cricket title, warmed up for the big annual tournament which bowls off in Nevis, this coming weekend with another practice match at the ET Willet Park.

The match was played on Monday 2nd June and the two teams were captained by former West Indies All rounder and current regional umpire, Carl Tuckett and Junior DUNCAN Mills who previously opened the innings for the Nevis senior team.

The Junior Mills team won the toss and elected to bat and chalked up an impressive 161 for 2 in their allotted 20 overs.

Curtis Morton Sr slammed 73 with 7 fours and 3 maximums, while Skipper Junior Mills hit a run a ball 70 not out which included 8 fours and 2 maximums.

Merlin Liburd scored 12.

Brian Dyer and Ellison collected one wicket each.

The Carl Tuckett led team then went after the target with great aggression, led by the captain himself who slammed 77 with 7 fours and 3 maximums.

Browne aka FOX looked good for 48 before he was unfortunately run out. He struck 8 fours. Bernette NUTSY Thompson got 10.

Wendell MICEY Wallace got 3 wickets and Cordell Walters looked as sharp as ever in the field in effecting a run out.

The Carl Tuckett team got to 156 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs.

The Junior Mills team won by a mere 5 runs in the high scoring game.

Practice sessions continue on Tuesday 3rd June at the ET Willet Park, starting at 4.30 pm.

The Leeward Islands Masters’ Cricket tournament commences in Nevis this coming Friday June 6th to Sunday June 8th.

Matches will be played at the ET Willet Park and the Cotton Ground Playing field

Friday June 6th. St. Kitts takes on St. Croix at the ET Willet Park and host island and defending champions Nevis takes on Anguilla at the Cotton ground playing field. Both matches start at 9.30 am

That same day at 2.00 pm St. Kitts takes on St. Maarten at Cotton Ground and Antigua takes on St. Croix at the ET Willet Park

Saturday June 7th at 9.30 am—Antigua takes on St. Kitts at Cotton Ground and Anguilla takes on St. Thomas at the ET Willet Park

At 2.00 pm –Nevis engages St. Thomas at the ET Willet Park and St. Croix takes on St. Maarten at the Cotton ground Playing field.

That same day at 5.00 pm—St. Maarten lock horns with Antigua at the ET Willet Park

Then on Sunday June 8th—this is the big one baby!

At 9.30 am Semi finals at the Cotton Ground Playing field and the ET Willet Park

And at 2.00 pm it’s the big finals match up at the ET Willet Park!
