Deputy Prime Minister saddened by Newman’s Death

(ZIZ News) — Deputy Prime Minster, Hon. Dr. Earl Asim Martin has expressed sadness over the brutal slaying of popular bus driver, Kevin Newman.

Dr. Martin described the St. Peter’s man as reliable and loyal to his clients and said it was shocking that his life was taken while providing services to the people who depended on him.

In a press statement issued On Monday evening, Dr. Martin extended his condolences to Newman’s family. He also gave the assurance that the Royal Police Force of St. Christopher and Nevis would spare no effort or resource in bringing those responsible for Newman’s murder to justice.

The Deputy Prime Minister also called on the public to cooperate with law enforcement and offer up any information which may assist investigations.

Meanwhile, in immediate response to the murder of Kevin Newman, Dr. Earl Asim Martin, Minister of Transport met with Ministry Of Finance and Police High Command officials and the executives of the St. Peter’s, East and West Bus Service Associations on Monday to discuss the safety and protection of public transportation providers.

Coming out of the meeting it was agreed that bus drivers will be granted government concessions for the installation of cameras in their vehicles; lighting will be improved at bus stops; there will be a greater police vehicle and motorcycle presence on the island main road; there will be improved lighting on the Gibbons/Dieppe Bay segment of the Island Main Road, and the role and impact of the Transport Board will be enhanced.
