Mr. Hazel said the presentations marked the fulfillment of a promise to aid law enforcement in the area.

“In December 2012, we assisted with the repainting of the St. Pauls Police Station; it looks almost brand new,” he stated. “This has significantly improved the entry experience to St. Pauls via Newton Ground. We promised that we would provide a patrol vehicle to the District ‘B’ to specifically serve the White Gate communities and I am pleased today that … we have delivered on that promise.”

Commissioner of Police Celvin G. Walwyn thanked the Whitegate Development Corporation for its donation. He revealed that the residents of the White Gate area, which extends from Newton Ground to Belle Vue, have been very supportive of the security forces in the past. He pledged that the police will continue to meet the demands of the community.

“We are here to do what we can to help you … continue to keep the peace in your community,” he said. “We’ve seen the calls for service [increase]. That tells me that the people are having more confidence in the police. We have also seen, not only here but across the Federation that the crime rate continues to go down.”

Prime Minister Douglas, who holds ministerial responsibility for the police, stressed that law and order will remain at the forefront of Government’s priorities.

“My Government … will continue to pursue every avenue to improve the safety and security infrastructure of our beloved Federation,” he emphasized. “… It is this kind of strategic partnership that will engender overall growth and development within our beloved Federation and will also engender full confidence in our uniformed men and women, as you demonstrate full confidence in your country and your government.”

The Prime Minister urged the officers to take good care of the new vehicle.
