Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 23, 2020 (ZIZ News):Parliamentary Representative for Constituency #6 Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas made donations to five public schools throughout the Constituency on Wednesday.
Dr. Douglas, through the Douglas Global Lifestyle Foundation of which he is the founder, made the donations as part of the efforts to safeguard the health of students who returned to school two weeks ago during the covid19 pandemic.
Handing over the items to the Student Council of the Dieppe Bay Primary School, Dr. Douglas outlined why the Foundation decided to make the presentation.
“We have a disease called Covid 19 disease which has overtaken the entire world and in order to make sure that we keep Covid 19 out of St. Kitts and Nevis, keeping it out your schools, homes and communities we are going to do a very simple presentation of a very important task that you yourselves must commit to. We are going to make sure that there is no spread of the virus that is causing this disease.”
At the Saddlers Primary School, he spoke of the importance of wearing masks and hand sanitization in preventing the spread of the virus.
By wearing the face mask, especially in school where you can’t distance from each other 6 feet, you must wear your mask; except of course you are of a particular age or if you are already ill with certain sicknesses we will not give you the mask but most of us will have to wear the mask. We also have to make sure that your hands are clean; that you don’t touch each other, you don’t touch the desk and from the desk, because it is now airborne, so it is all over, we have to make sure that we sanitize our hands and our desks and chairs often.”
The recipient schools were the St. Paul’s, Dieppe Bay, Newton Ground and Saddlers Primary Schools and the Saddlers Secondary School.
Each school received hand sanitizer dispensers, alcohol- based sanitizer dispensers, alcohol based sanitizer refills and surgical face masks sufficient for every child to have three.
