Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 8, 2019 (ZIZ News): Dozens of contractors were seen returning their Tender documents for the second segment of road works for Phase 2 of the Island Main Road Rehabilitation Project during a public bidding held in the Public Works Department Conference Room on Thursday.

The process would select which company would be responsible for completing the project.

To kick off the process, several envelopes were removed from a locked box that was placed inside of the Conference room.

Managing Director of AdeB Consultants Limited, Mr. Martell Lee, facilitated the bidding, and with assistance from the office secretary and Chief Engineer at the Public Works Department, Mr. George Gilbert, the documents were opened individually and read aloud for all to hear.

The room was filled with anxious contractors who carefully wrote down and attentively listened as  figures and estimates from their competition were announced. This was the most intense phase of the bidding considering that simple mistakes like forgetting to sign the Tender documents, or forgetting to include a bond in your envelope could lead to instant disqualification.

Contractors were asked to hand in all tenders on or before 10 a.m. One company was excluded because their Tender documents were not presented before the deadline.

At the end of the bidding, it was revealed that the names of contractors whose tenders were deemed most repsonsive and those who have been awarded contracts would be announced in the next 2 weeks following an evaluation.

Chief Engineer Gilbert thanked all contractors for participating in the bidding proceess and Managing Director Mr. Lee, revealed that the winner would be invited to formulate a contract with the Public Works Department.

Work on the second segment comprises construction of sidewalks and drains between Parson Ground and St. Pauls through Challengers.
