Early morning explosion at Electricity Sub-Station in Bird Rock causes power outage

ZIZ News…Oct 10 2011 – Electricity in the Bird Rock area was interrupted this morning Monday October 10, when the Bird Rock Sub-Station on South Pelican Drive exploded and sent plumes of Black smoke into the air.

It happened just after seven o’clock when neigbours were alerted by some smaller explosions which preceded the loud blast.

The Fire and Rescue Services responded in quick time followed by engineers from (SKELEC) St. Kitts Electricity Company. The small fire was extinguished and the damage was limited to the area within the Sub Station.

The cause of the explosion is not known but the engineers from the SKELEC were on the scene carrying out their enquiries.
