“Eat Local” on Friday

EatLocalDay-1(ZIZ News/Press Release)– Plans are underway for the staging of the Department Of Agriculture’s food festival “Eat Local Day” on Friday.

This is the seventh annual production and the aim is to produce meals where all the dishes are of a local origin.

Breadfruit is expected to be one of the main carbohydrates served and this would complement the promotion of an FAO-sponsored project on commercializing breadfruit and breadnut in the Federation.

According to a statement from the department fish, pork, beef and mutton are expected to be on sale while the caterers will be showing off their various recipes using sweet potato, pumpkin, egg plant, green banana, squash, string beans and corn.

These will be complimented by local drinks and snacks prepared by the St. Kitts Agro Processors Cooperative and the Fahie’s Agricultural Women’s Cooperative.

Digicel is the event’s main sponsor and they will be having special deals and offers on the day.

The festival will coincide with the annual Child Month March and a Music Festival day event “Sun Fest”.

“Eat Local Day” will be held at Independence Square on Friday, June 27th beginning at 11 am.
