Education Minister Richards Launches Child Month 2015 through Address

ShawnRichards-9(ZIZ News) — The month of June continues to be recognized, in the Federation, as Child Month.

Held under the theme “Serving Children with Love and Dignity”, the month kicked off with an address by Minister of Education, Hon. Shawn. K. Richards.

Minister Richards highlighted the requirements underscored by the theme.

“This year’s theme speaks to loving children with acts of service. To serve means to care for, to minister to, to attend to the needs of a person. This is what the theme requires from all adults: that we attend to the needs of all children,” he said.

According the minister, serving children with love and dignity can lead to the transformation of our society.

“The institution of the family continues to be under attack,” Minister Richards stressed.

“There is much work to be accomplished but as we stand together, united for the purpose of family, we can transform our society. As a society, we can do this by providing assistance to parents when necessary and ensuring that children have adequate care when parents or guardians charged with that responsibility do not provide it,” he added.

Meanwhile, Nevis’ Premier and Minister of Education, Hon. Vance Amory has called for service, love and dignity for children as the country celebrates Child Month 2015.

Premier Amory, during his televised address on NTV 8, also examined this year’s theme.

He said it is insightful and compelling.

Among the activities slated for Child Month are church services, children’s concerts, a food fair and the annual Child Month Parades.
