Elderly Movie Visit

Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 16, 2019 (ZIZ News): On Wednesday, officials from the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services hosted their elderly movie visit as part of the month of activities for the Month Of Older Persons.

The seniors were transported to the cinema in school buses and were brought inside and seated. They were served popcorn and drinks before the movie began.

The movie they watched is called “Overcomer” which tells the story of a high-school basketball coach who volunteers to coach a troubled teen in long-distance running.

In an interview with ZIZ News, Deputy Director at the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, Ann Wigley spoke about the importance of honoring our seniors.

They are the ones who laid the rock for us to be on and we’re supposed to honor, love and respect them. Yes, they are not always 100% but that should be on us, we now have to do our part so St. Kitts has for the past years been honoring them and celebrating with them.”

Staff at the Caribbean Cinemas catered to a total of 120 seniors whose ages range from 65 to 93 years.

Minister of State with responsibility for Social Services, the Hon. Wendy Phipps said that events such as these will help seniors to be a part of the country rather than being isolated.

The month of activities continues on Wednesday October 23rd with the Scenic Railway tour and finally a picnic on October 30th.
