Ensuring Cayon High is Safe

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 2, 2019 (ZIZ News): Minister of Education the Hon Shawn Richards said his ministry is doing everything in its power to ensure that Cayon High School is a safe and healthy environment before reopening it for the new school year.

He made the comment at Tuesday’s sitting of National Assembly as he gave an update on the work being done and when the school will reopen.

The Ministry of Education is working assiduously to have the cleaning of the Cayon High School completed before a decision on reopening is made,” he said “The ministry of Education therefore expresses its profound thanks to the principal, staff, and students of the Cayon High School for their, patience, understanding, and resilience demonstrated during this very trying time in the life of the institution.”

He noted that the ministry had contracted various firms over the summer to address the health concerns at the school.

During summer vacation the entire school was fumigated to treat termite-infested spaces at the school,” he said. “At present a professional cleaning company is contracted to clean the entire school. All spaces are being power-washed and sprayed with chemicals to remove any final trace of mould infestation.”

Minister Richards also noted that parents of students at Cayon High have been informed about the ongoing efforts and would be kept up to date on any future developments.
