Famers Tackling Climate Change

ZIZ News…June 19 2013 — Farmers and other agriculture officials are looking at ways to reduce the impact climate change will have on their crops.

At a workshop this week at The Ocean Terrace Inn, they’re looking at Agro Bio Diversity, or using a variety of crops to sustain each other.

During the workshop’s opening ceremony Gene Knight and official of The Agriculture Ministry said the effects of climate change aren’t always as dramatic as a flood or famine, but can show up in more subtle ways such as the increase in ticks in wet weather.

Economist, Dr Alan Williams said the answer to tackling climate change lies in Agro Bio Diversity.

The sessions are being organized by The Ministry Of Agriculture in conjunction with the Caribbean Agriculture Research And Development Institute.
