Fantasia Headlines Spectacular Lineup

Fantasia

BASSETERRE (10th May, 2011): The island of St. Kitts is buzzing with excitement from Fantasia’s announcement that she plans to give an explosive performance at the 15th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival, June 23rd to 25th, 2011.

The 2004 American Idol winner & eight-time Grammy nominated Fantasia made the announcement at a press conference last week, where the complete lineup of the Music Festival was revealed for the first time. At the press conference Fantasia described herself as a “soul singer” who loves performing all types of music.

“Expect to hear songs from all three of my albums, but I also like to reach back and touch on music that I grew up listening to, which is a little bit of Aretha Franklyn, Chaka Khan and Prince,” Fantasia said. “I like to give a little something for everybody.”

Fantasia Monique Barrino said she plans to make her debut performance in St. Kitts an unforgettable experience.

“I am not a pretty singer. I am not going to walk on stage and worry about my shoes and worry about my hair or dress. By the time I get off that stage the hair is going to be wet, the shoes are going to be off. I want to make the people feel as if they are the ones who just got through performing,” Fantasia said. “I love music and I am a soul singer. So I sing on what I am going through and I sing on how I feel, because you never know who can be touched, or what somebody is going through in the audience, and so they might need to hear a certain word in a song and the music might make them feel good and might encourage them.”

She promised to “try to bring joy and good music and try to make sure everybody leaves saying we got our money’s worth”.

The 15th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival kicks of on Thursday 23rd June with performances by the Nu Vybes International Band, Small Axe Band, Ali Campbell’s UB40, Bunny Wailer, Mic Stokes, King Konris, Xman and The Kore featuring Gharlic.

On Friday, 24th the Music Festival will erupt with pure dancehall and reggae vibes from Gyptian, Demarco, Konshens, Black Ryno, Maxi Priest, Coco Tea and Yellow Man.

Then on Saturday night Jah Cure, The Commodores, Fantasia and East Meets West will take center stage.

Now in its 15th consecutive year, the festival attracts both residents and visitors alike and is known for featuring rising local talent alongside internationally-renowned acts. It features a mix of musical styles on the popular market, including R&B, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Reggae, Soca, Calypso, Gospel and Contemporary, to name a few.
