Fig Tree Community ‘make-over’ powered by LIME

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS: 31st May, 2012 – A strong team effort from the Fig Tree residents is being bolstered by teleco LIME as the community gets ready to host its fundraising activities in weeks to come.

Already the community has great visual appeal, which is the result of a solid community effort to beautify the area, but the members are busy working towards more enhancements.

This beautification project was a collaboration between LIME, Fig Tree Netball Club and Fig Tree Dirt Revellers Basketball Team. The beach-community clean up took place on May 20, 2012 from 6:30 am and started from the Fisherman Corp Building towards the Fig Tree community shoreline and the island main road leading to the Fig Tree Project.

David Lake, LIME’s General Manager, said ” We have embarked on a Community Renewal Project that will assist our communities in their quest to promote positive lifestyles and mutual respect for others. As a company, we believe we are an integral part of each community in St. Kitts and Nevis and we will continue to support our communities as together we make our nation a better place.”

Darien Belle, Marketing Manager, who was part of the day’s activity, says “This is the second community cleanup project that LIME has participated in for the year and we expect to become even more involved in community centered activities as the year progresses.”

He continued “With some elbow grease and a lot of willingness, we were able to enhance the look of the area and plans are in motion to transform one of the unoccupied areas into a garden-recreational lot”

Enthusiastic volunteers came out in their numbers to the clean up the area. One of the organizers, Pearline Matthew of Fig Tree Netball Club was pleased with the enthusiasm of her fellow residents stating “the clean up started on time, everyone was energized and we had fun. Residents were even more motivated when they saw that LIME’s general manager took time from his busy schedule to come out and help in the clean up. We are very happy that LIME came on board for this project and we will continue in our efforts to make our community even more beautiful”

The project was deemed a success as the entire community showed support for the effort lending their time and energy. The area was made ready for a Family Fun day which was held on 26th May, 2012.

LIME has pledged its continued partnership with other communities throughout the Federation to bring about positive change and community empowerment.
