Fire at Indo Carib

The fire department is investigating a report of a building on fire on Sunday morning in downtown Basseterre.

According to Chief Fire Officer, Everett O’garro at about 8:20am a passerby called the fire department saying that he saw smoke coming out of the window of the building that houses the Indo Carib shop on Central Street.

When the fire officers arrived on the scene they saw the fire was located in the front lower section of the property and managed to contain it to that area.

According to the Fire Chief, they managed to prevent it from spreading to the upper levels however the owner lost a lot of merchandise in the lower level.

The upper level received some smoke damage.

No one was injured in the blaze.

Mr O’garro said the fire department suspects this was an electrical fire but further investigations are underway.

According to reports, the fire and rescue officers responded to a fire at the Indo Carib Shop commonly known as “Sun Island Clothing” on Central Street.
