Fire At Royal Bank

Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 11, 2020 (ZIZ News): The St. Kitts Nevis Fire and Rescue Services responded to a report of a fire at the Royal Bank of Canada in downtown Basseterre on Friday.

ZIZ News spoke with Chief Fire Officer Everette O’Garro who gave a report of what took place.

“At around 18:30 yesterday, the Basseterre Unit of the St. Kitts Nevis Fire and Rescue Services responded to a report of smoke seen coming from a window at royal bank. On arrival at the scene, they had to use force entry to gain access to the property. Upon gaining access to the property, fire was met in a back room area of the bank. The fire was quickly extinguished. The fire was located in an area that was populated by a huge amount of electrical equipment and components. The quick action of the men was able to prevent the fire from spreading to other areas of the bank. No one was injured as no one was at the bank at the time of the fire,” he said.

The Fire Chief said it is suspected that the fire may have been due to electrical issues but they await confirmation as investigations into the fire at Royal Bank continues.
