First Division 50 Overs Tournament to commence this weekend

KeithScarboroughFilePhotoC(Sports Page)— President of the Nevis Cricket Association Keith Scarborough on Monday 30th June gave an update on Cricket on the island of Nevis.

Starting this weekend, the much anticipated first Division 50 overs a side tournament will commence.

The tournament will be sponsored by the Development Bank of St.Kitts and Nevis. Disappointingly however, Scarborough noted that only three teams had registered for the tournament.

The tournament will begin on Saturday July 5th at 1 pm at the ET Willet Park.

The schedule of the upcoming games is as follows:
Saturday July 8th—-Highlights Int v Pennyless All Stars
Sunday July 6th –Empire v Pennyless All Stars
Saturday July 12th –Empire v Highlights Int
Sunday July 13th–Finals between the two top teams

Teams involved in rained out games will be awarded one point each.

Following the tournament, the Nevis team to play in the T-20 encounter versus St.Kitts as part of the Culturama 40 activities, will be named on Wednesday 16th July.

The match between the two Federation teams is scheduled for July 26th.

Scarborough also took the opportunity to congratulate several teams for completing victories in the recent past and noted that since the Nevis Premier league was initiated, the Cricket fever seems to be returning to the island and the fans are once again regaining interest in the game.

He congratulated the Nevis Masters’ team for convincingly winning the Leeward Islands Masters’ tournament and the Nevis under 15 team for playing outstanding cricket during the Leeward Islands under 15 tournament, even though he felt that they deserved championship honours and were placed second due to a technicality.

He also congratulated the Nevis under 17 team for winning all four practice games against their Kittitian counterparts.

Scarborough is inviting the cricket loving public to come out to witness the upcoming local tournament as he is convinced that it will provide quite some excitement.
