First ever Basseterre High School Parent/Teachers Convention a success

ZIZ News..Nov. 12 2012—–the ocean terrace inn was the venue yesterday, Sunday 11th November for the hosting of the first ever Basseterre High School Parents Teachers Association Convention 2012.

The Convention’s theme “Creating New Possibilities’ has as its objectives – to bring into closer relation the home and the school, as well as providing opportunities for parent’s education, communication and leadership development.

The gathering was addressed by the Hon. Nigel Carty, Minister of Education who challenged parents and teachers alike to become part of the solution to problems faced by school in general.

Other presentations looked at ‘Conscious Financial Choices and Conscientious Spending’ done by Mr. Charles Morton, Manager of the Nevis Branch of Bank of Nova Scotia, “Parents Take Up Your Cause” done by Mr. Walwyn Chiverton, President of the PTA – and speaking on the theme itself was the Hon. Curtis martin, Speaker of the National Assembly.

Also at this convention, the PTA launched one of its outreach programmes -“Internet Driving Certificate for parents”, by Mr. Wesley Wharton. The evening ended with an open forum where issues affecting the school were discussed.

According to Kelvin Belle, PRO – the PTA is committed to the upkeep of the BHS, the birth place of champions.
