Folklore And Splendor Dons Independence Celebrations

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 09, 2013 (SKNIS): The National Arts Festival Week – in celebration of St. Kitts and Nevis’ 30th anniversary of Independence continues on Monday September 09, and is being dubbed “Performance Art, Folklore in Splendor” day.

Most of the focus today will be on schools and the Federation’s children, with folklore groups being on hand throughout secondary schools around St. Kitts and Nevis to display and reiterate an important piece of our culture in song and dance.

Lorna Ava Henry, Dance Specialist in the Ministry of Culture said the day will also be a day to promote culinary arts – making different types of foods and drinks well known in our culture available to the general public in different areas throughout St. Kitts and Nevis.

In the evening, the focus returns to ground zero for the Independence 30 celebrations – Independence Square, where patrons can enjoy a night of drama, folklore and other cultural performances.

The general public is invited to come out, be a part of the celebrations that has made our country 30 years strong.
