Forensic Nursing Training (24-27 June)

ZIZ News…July 2, 2013 — On 24 to 27 June 2013, a Forensic Nursing Training Course was conducted at the Windsor University School of Medicine, Brighton Estate, Cayon. The facilitators of the course were Dr. Patricia M. Speck and Diana K. Faugno of the University of Tennessee who worked in association with Dean, Dr. Brijinder Gupta of Windsor University School of Medicine. Training was a collaboration between Windsor University School of Medicine, University of Tennessee Health Science Centre College of Nursing, End Violence against Women International, and the Royal St. CHristopher and Nevis Police Force. Thirteen (13) members of The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force participated in this training. They learned a number of crucial Forensic skills throughout the four (4) day course.

• Evidence collection
• How to interact with the rape victim
  
• Males can also be victims of sexual assault
  
• Right time to question and get information from the victim about the incident
  
• Basic Digital Photography for Nurses and how to take photographs while examining the victim and making them feel comfortable in the process
  
• Developmental Anatomy
  
• Using the analog clock
  
• Suspect Examinations
  
• Treatment and referrals of adult sexual assaults
  

During the training there were practical sessions to test the skills and knowledge of the participants. The training is another initiative of Commissioner CG Walwyn in enhancing the skill and knowledge base of members of the Force.
