Former NBA Center and tallest player in Caribbean Basketball to lead Dominica National team on St. Kitts Tour

ZIZ Sports…Oct 31 2011 – Garth Joseph, the 7ft, 2 inches 315 lb former NBA Center will be leading the Dominica National Team on their weekend November 11th to 14th tour to St. Kitts.

Joseph who played for the Denver Nuggets and the Toronto Raptors in the 2000-01 NBA season and professional ball in Egypt, Iran, France, China and Ukraine, will captain the national side. He said he’s happy for the opportunity to lead the team. “I’ve been wanting to play for a long time. I am happy that I am in shape enough to play. ..I am not in great shape, but I am in good shape so I’m happy that I am in shape and with the conditions of the game in Dominica I can help out” he said.

Joseph played his college ball alongside local veteran Ghetto Roots and former National Team center Kiethley Hicks at the College of St. Rose in Albany New York.

Garth , one of the most popular players to ever don a uniform for The College of Saint Rose, led Dominica to a bronze medal at the Windward Islands Basketball Tournament last year in Grenada. He recorded 42 points and a tournament-high 34 rebounds for Dominica, which finished 2-1 with victories against Grenada and St. Lucia.

The giant Joseph wore a size XXXXL uniform and a size 18 shoe at Saint Rose. He closed out his three-year collegiate career (1994-95 – 1996-97) as the College’s all-time rebounder (1,072) and shot blocker (300). Joseph furthermore scored 1,289 points, recorded 58 “double-doubles” throughout 89 games, and led the Golden Knights to an 82-15 (.845) record along with three NCAA Tournaments including the program’s first “Elite Eight” appearance in 1995-96″At 7′-2″ 315 pds Joseph will no doubt be the largest and tallest human being that many Kittitians and Nevisians has ever seen,” said a SKABA official.

I think people especially little kids will be amazed by the size of this man who has been compared to Shaquille O ‘Neale both in terms of size and style of play,” the official continued.

The Dominicans will be facing SKABA “A” Division champions Exodus on November 11th in Challengers. Then they will square off against the Premier Division Champions Ghaut Bucs on Saturday 12th then finally they will engage the SKABA All Star team on Sunday 13th at Basketball City.
