Franklin Brand nominated Speaker of the National Assembly
Basseterre, St. Kitts (SKNIS) — Franklin Brand, entrepreneur, civic and business leader, was nominated Speaker of the National Assembly for the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. This announcement was re-confirmed on Tuesday at the Press Conference of Prime Minister, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris.
Mr. Brand is co-owner and managing director of Island Bakeries Ltd, in Basseterre St. Kitts, a post he has held since 1997. He was also manager of Nevis Bakery Ltd. Charlestown, Nevis.
Before entering the private sector he served as Chief Statistician for the Nevis island Administration (NIA). He also served as Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Trade, Industry, Development and Planning for the NIA.
Mr. Brand has been involved in many community and civic activities and organizations. He is an active member of the Mount Olive Masonic Lodge. He was a member of both the Rotary Club of St. Kitts, and the Social Security Board. Mr. Brand also served as President of the St. Kitts and Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce. He is also a former Director of the Foundation for National Development Enterprise Co-operative Credit Union (FND-ECCU) Ltd.
The incoming Speaker of the National Assembly currently serves as President of the St. Kitts and Nevis Small Business Forum, a non-profit organization which he co-founded in September 2011.
He is married to Jacqueline Evelyn, and is the father of four children.
