Gangs Hand Over Guns

Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 13, 2019 (ZIZ News): Gang members have reportedly handed over 30 guns to the police as a show of their
commitment to keep the peace in the Federation.

That’s according to senior officials within the Ministry of National Security, who
made the revelation during a press conference at the Police Training School on
Tuesday.

According to Acting Commissioner of Police, Hilroy Brandy the gang members say
they want to show that they’re serious by giving up their guns.

“Working through a third party, they have been doing so,” he said. “To date, the
police have received 30 firearms and 73 rounds of ammunition. Such an exercise has
never taken place in the history of the Police Force or our country. These weapons
will undergo a process and will subsequently be destroyed.”

Mr Brandy said, added to the weapons seized by the police this batch of confiscated
weapons makes a total of 43 illegal guns taken off the street for the year.
Prime Minister Dr. The Hon Timothy Harris also commended the police on their
efforts to remove the illegal guns from the street.

He went on to commend the members of the community who interacted with the gang members in efforts to help them change their lives.

He said “My cabinet and I are there appreciative of the hard work and tireless
dedication of some very patriotic residents and citizens who, with the support of law
enforcement, have undertaken to engage with gang members as well as with other
vulnerable members of society
