ZIZ Sports…April 28, 2010 – The Horsford’s Ghetto Roots Basketball Club is off to a good start for the LIME SKABA 2010 season as both of their teams, the SKABA Champions Ghetto Roots and the “A” division contenders Rootsie, recorded opening game victories.

The Rootsie came up against the formidable Monkey Hill Rockers XI in a keenly contested encounter. Both teams traded baskets for most of the game and ended the first half at an even 39-39. Things remained the same for the 2nd half as Jason “Shaggy” Norford for Rootsie and Calvin “Butters” Wallace for Rockers led their teams in a very exciting uptempo game. At the end of regulation the game was tied forcing an overtime period.

The overtime period was all Rootsie as they outscored the Rockers to win the game 83-77.

Jason “Shaggy” Norford led Rootsie with 24 pts while Calvin Wallace had 27 Points for Rockers.

Defending SKABA Champions Ghetto Roots had similar fortunes as they easily disposed of the Shawn K. Richards Sandy Point Chappurtin. The Chappurtin brother duo of Taslyn Belboda and Javal Hodge played exceptionally as they were able to match the Ghetto Roots dynamic backcourt of Rymal “Bally” Browne and Levi “By-By” Fyfeild. Belboda and Hodge gave the Ghetto Roots all they could handle however the Ghetto Roots simply had to much weapons and too much talent for the Chappurtin to be of any real threat.

Despite losing SKABA MVP Browne early in the game and a lack-lustre night from the exciting Fyfeild Ghetto Roots still managed to make relatively easy work of Chappurtin with a 97-92 victory. Taslyn “Tazzy” Belboda led all scorers with 27 points and 5 assists for Chappurtin while Carlos “Mucho Caliente” Monzac led Ghetto Roots with 21 points and 9 rebounds.

Ghetto Roots next game will be on Sunday May 2nd versus Fig Tree while Chappurtin will take on Cayon on Saturday May 1st.
