Ghetto Roots to Participate in Caribbean Club Tournament

ZIZ Sports…May 28 2010 – Seven (7) time and defending SKABA Champions the Horsford’s Ghetto Roots are among several elite teams from throughout the Caribbean who have been invited to participate in the annual prestigious St.Martin Caribbean Club Invitational Tournament.

The annual event is the only regional basketball club tournament that takes place annually. The tournament is an exclusive tournament where only the regions elite teams are invited. The tournament is expected to feature the champion or top club teams from throughout the region including teams from Guadeloupe, Martinique, Trinidad, Dominica, Anguilla, Antigua, BVI, St.Vincent and hosts French St.Martin.

“It is indeed an honor for our teams to be chosen and to be invited to this prestigious tournament and we are certainly keen on matching the level of skills of our players with those from throughout the region,” said Ghetto Roots Manager Wallis Wilkin.

According to Wilkin the team is in the midst of a number of fund raising initiatives and activities to ensure the teams presence at the widely regarded tournament.

“The team and team management are currently on a fund raising drive to ensure our team’s full presence at the tournament, said Wallis Wilkin General Manager of the Ghetto Roots.

Ghetto Roots has certainly had a rich history in Caribbean basketball having been the first team to win the OECS Club Championship back in 1987. The team is the only team invited this year for the tournament from the federation. And according to Coach Dr. Garfield Alexander his expectations and that of the team are very positive.

Alexander continued “I am very enthusiastic about our team’s participation in this tournament and I am further confident of our teams chances of success at the tournament,” said Ghetto Roots Head Coach Dr. Garfield Alexander. “I have very little doubt about the ability of the players and the team and I am extremely confident that once our players remain focused and disciplined Ghetto Roots will be successful in the tournament”.

The SXM Caribbean Club Basketball Invitational takes place from June 30th to July 5th in French St. Martin
