Gift packages of food exempted from duties and taxes in December

Basseterre, St. Kitts (CUOPM) – Gift packages of food imported into the twin-island Federation during the month of December will be exempted from customs duties and taxes.

This was disclosed by Acting Comptroller of Customs, Mr. Georid Belle.

He disclosed that the Cabinet has approved that with effect from December 10th, gift packages of “food stuff” are allowed the first 400 pounds free of Duties and Taxes brought in by non-commmercial importers and travellers.

This he said is equivalent to four (4) jumbo barrels.

He said a duty free allowance of EC$540  or US$200 off of the CIF value of other items.

St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister and Minister of Finance implemented the annual exercise in an effort to ease the burden that some of shoppers would experience in travelling overseas to shop or those who would be receiving food stuff, etc, from their families and friends abroad during the Christmas/Carnival season.
