Gladiators to be represented at Carifta 2011

Adrian Williams

ZIZ Sports News…April 18 2011 – Two members of the Gladiators Track club will represent the Federation of ST. Kitts and Nevis in the upcoming Carifta meet to be held in Jamaica.

This was revealed on Friday 15th April by Mr. Wakeley Daniel, Owner/Manager of the Gladiators Track club. Daniel spoke in glowing terms of the successes of Adrian Williams with the Javelin throw and Renika Daniel in track.

The athletes are set to leave Nevis tomorrow Tuesday 19th April to participate in the Caribbean’s top competition, CARIFTA which will be held from the 23rd to 25th April in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Daniel indicated that Adrian Williams was Gold medallist in the under 17 javelin throw for the Carifta games last year and is looking forward for him to defend his championship and create a new record in the process. In the recent Carifta trials, Adrian threw the javelin beyond the current top distance for the Carifta games at his level. Renika on the other hand, has established herself as the top junior female 400 meters athlete in the Federation and recently did her best time of the year—58.58. He anticipates that if she does not take a Carifta medal, that she would at least make it to the finals and do her best time ever—sub 58.00.

Daniel also proudly noted that he and his club have kept their established ‘contract’ with the people of Nevis. He stated that sometime ago he had promised that the Gladiators track club will continue to perform and bring home medals. He was quick to point to medals previously secured by Myles Walters-first Nevisian to win a Carifta medal (bronze in 2007); Ariann Maynard—bronze medal in St.Kitts in 2008; Tesril Nisbett-bronze in 2009 and upgraded to gold medal by Adrian Williams in 2010. He is not only anticipating gold by Adrian for this Carifta but looking for a brand new record in the process.

The entire sporting public within the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis await the results with bated breaths.
