Government Ministries and Tourism Authorities partner to host St. Kitts and Nevis Restaurant Week 2015

(ZIZ News) — July 16th to 26th are the dates that have been set aside for the first St. Kitts and Nevis Restaurant Week.

The Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Agriculture, the St. Kitts and Nevis Hotel and Tourism Authority, the St. Kitts Tourism Authority and the Nevis Tourism Authority have partnered with locally based restaurants to facilitate the observance.

On Tuesday morning, media professionals gathered at the Ottley’s Plantation Inn for the media launch of the event.

Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Diannille Taylor-Williams said all participating restaurants will offer a special Restaurant Week menu at one of three price points.

She said, “We have restaurants like Carambola Beach and the new Verandah at the Ocean Terrace Inn who will be offering a three course dinner at US$60 or EC$162, all taxes included. Restaurants such as Jamrock, Serendipity and Nirvana will serve a three course dinner at EC$108 or us$40 while other dining spots such as Mr. X Shiggidy Shack and Sunset Café at Timothy Beach Resort will be offering meals at US$20 or EC$54.”

She said smaller restaurants, that only serve lunch, will also participate in Restaurant Week. She said they will offer lunch specials at attractive prices.

According to Taylor-Williams, the St. Kitts and Nevis Restaurant Week will promote the use of local foods.

Nevis-based restaurants will participate in Restaurant Week as an added feature to the island’s annual Mango Festival.

“Nevis restaurants will therefore incorporate their week as part of an exciting programme of the Nevis Mango Festival activities. Our St. Kitts and Nevis Restaurant Week menus will also feature drink specials brought to you by sponsors which we must acknowledge: Carib Brewery, Rams Trading Limited and Opus Fine Wines and Spirits,” she explained.

Restaurant Week 2015 is expected to promote the country’s livelihoods, food supply, culture and unique restaurant scene and offer specials so that residents can try dining spots they have not tried before.
