Government promises to support more Tertiary Level Education

Basseterre, St. Kitts (SKNIS) — Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, has stated on the Government’s new radio programme “Working for You” that the Government of National Unity is committed to reducing the financial burden on university students studying abroad.

“Education is basically a great force for mobilization of people along the path of rationality, discipline, production, and productivity,” said the Prime Minister. “So, we want to do all that we can to assist our people, not just with preschool level education, primary education, and secondary education but certainly at tertiary level.”

The Prime Minister added that studies done will show that persons who receive a tertiary level education make the greatest contribution to the development of a nation.

“And that is why across the globe they have developed indicators that deal with the level of participation of citizens in tertiary level education and [this is] where we need to be,” said the Prime Minister.

Dr. Harris referred to an earlier promise to “establish a fund that will guarantee that every person who qualifies will receive assistance in obtaining a university or tertiary education.”

“We will find ways and we will announce these shortly, hopefully at the time of the budget with respect to our programme for making more affordable access to tertiary level education,” concluded the Prime Minister.
