Government reiterates promise of new horizon for nation’s youth

(ZIZ)The Ministry of Social and Community Development gets an eight percent increase in its Budget, thus securing the safety and well being of our nation’s young people

The ministry has been allocated an eight percent increase to ec$8,060,818 over the past year’s recurrent expenditure, which it will us strengthen participation in its programmes by increasing outreach. The organizational structure of the ministry would also be reconfigured to allow for team building.

This approach, according to the Honorable Dr. Denzil l. Douglas, will foster meaningful collaboration, communication, connectivity and resource sharing. This will in turn increase the human resource capacity in each ministry, which will be connected to stimulate community participation, better target community needs and strengthen community leadership.

Minister of Health and Social Services, Honorable Marcella Liburd said the center is now ready to accommodate residents.

Minister Liburd also said she was pleased with the progress the center is making, having had staff undergo intense training, specializing them to respond to the needs of persons who will reside there.

In addition, the minister spoke to the new dispensation of laws that will govern the rights of children in St. Kitts and Nevis and explained that parents will now be mandated to play greater roles in their children’s upbringing.
