Government to Diversify the Tourism Product by Creating an Immersive Cultural Experience

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 9, 2022 (SKNIS): The Government, led by Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew has plans to diversify the tourism product by creating a more immersive cultural experience for the travellers to the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.

In her first Ministry of Tourism Press Conference at the St. Kitts Marriott Saint Lucia Room on September 8, Minister of Tourism, Honourable Marsha Henderson, said, “We must, however, diversify our experiences by identifying immersive cultural products and services that will increase demand for our destination. The diversification of our experiences will require intense collaboration with our local sectors such as agriculture and sports.”

Minister Henderson cited a study from American Express’ Global Travel Report that stated “81 percent of travellers are desirous of travelling to destinations where they can have genuine cultural experiences and immerse themselves in the local culture. They are willing to spend two more times on vacation than they did before the pandemic.”

She said that the report was exciting news for St. Kitts and Nevis as the Federation can offer rich experiences steeped in culture and history. She further explained that this was the goal of the Government as “it will boost the economic impact of our tourism industry.”

“We cannot look at our product offerings the same way we did two years ago. Our visitors want to feel and see an authentic St. Kitts and Nevis where they can engage with us and not simply be observers,” the Minister of Tourism said.
