Government to Spare No Expense in the Fight against Crime

(ZIZ News) – Prime Minister, the Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris said his administration cannot achieve true prosperity for all while violent crimes linger in St. Kitts and Nevis.

As a result, Dr. Harris said the government will spare no expense to address the crime situation.

He used a local radio station to update nationals on the work of his administration since taking office.

“We have determined that we would put all the resources that we reasonably can muster in support of the agencies of law and order in the country,” the Prime Minister told listeners on Friday.

“That is why when the police came and said we needed this very special microscope that will go a long way in determining firearms; their ownership, tracing, making connections between murder here and murder at this particular time because we have the shells, we have everything, we said that we couldn’t put a price on life. And though it astounded many of us to know that the microscope will cost us near a half a million dollars, we found the resources to do so,” he added.

The Prime Minister further stated that with the assistance of eight law enforcement experts, the forensic capabilities of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force are being significantly enhanced.

He said, “We determined that forensics was the way to go and we put away special space at Lozack Road Police Station to develop a modern forensic lab. We have about three police officers already trained in that particular area, some undergoing further training to come back and take over from the foreigner we have providing leadership in that particular facility. In the fight against crime, we will spare nothing.”

Prime Minister Harris also used the opportunity update the nation on work to establish a Small Business Fund at the St. Kitts and Nevis Development Bank, reform of the Citizenship by Investment Programme and the progress of the Sugar Workers’ Restoration Fund.
