Government works to resolve land issue with New Birth Gospel Tabernacle

(SKNIS/ZIZ): The Government is working towards resolving a land issue with the pastor and congregation of the New Birth Gospel Tabernacle Church in Cayon.

Attorney General, the Honourable Vincent Byron, said today that the Government has been working to resolve the issue with the lawyers of Reverend Cyprian Williams, pastor of New Birth Gospel Tabernacle.

This comes, as Reverend Williams stood outside Government Headquarters on Wednesday in an apparent act of protest.

According to the attorney general, New Birth Gospel Tabernacle had been erected on a temporary site and that Reverend Williams had obtained a piece of land in an area zoned as residential to build his church. However, the residents of the area objected to building the church in their community and filed complaints to the St. Kitts-Nevis Development Control and Planning Board. Subsequent to the complaints, the Development Control and Planning Board in October, 2016, revoked the decision for the building of the church on the land that was protested.

“Since then, his lawyers had written to the Planning Board and the Ministry of Sustainable Development has been trying to resolve it by offering an alternative site. There is an offer on the table and it is hoped that Pastor Williams and his congregation will accept the offer,” said Attorney General Byron.
