Sports Page — In his first race since early summer of 2012, Shirvon Greene, the middle distance veteran of Craddock Road, Charlestown Nevis took the field to represent the New Balance Central Park Track Club.
He was participating in the annual 5K cross country series tournament which takes place each and every summer at one of New York’s most popular and prestigious cross country courses known as Vancortland Park, located in the West Bronx.
There were 160 athletes representing various clubs. Of this sizable field Greene finished 8th place overall in a time of 19.24 (Personal Best Time) and 2nd Overall in his Age Category which was 20-30 years
“Its a Good to be back. Didn’t execute the way I wanted but to sit for almost 2 years to recover from injuries and then to come back and do this really is a Great step towards where I want to be.
Although there is still lots of work to be done. I’m just grateful to be back. Things are definitely looking up and I thank the grace of God , my family , the entire Nevis Community and the Monroe College Community, especially the Track Team for their continuous support and encouragement leading up to this debut and no worries– Better is still to Come.”
It must be noted that Greene currently serves as the Head Cross Country coach and the Assistant Track coach at Monroe College and immediately after his race was saluted via Facebook with congratulations from his athletes & Co Workers and also this trend continued with the Nevis Community as well.
In terms of Greene’s next scheduled race, it will take place on Thursday June 19th at Vancortland at 7pm
